Maria Grazia Chiuri, Dior and the Cruise 2024 collection were unveiled in Mexico City on Saturday night. A series of photos were taken both backstage and at the fitting, giving us an inside look at the special bags in the collection.
A Ode to Tradition
The Cruise 2024 collection, which was showcased in Mexico City by Maria Grazia Chiuri, pays homage to tradition and craft from different cultures. Maria Grazia Chiuri has once again partnered with local artisans. Maria Grazia Chiuri was inspired by Mexico City and the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo when she designed this collection. Dior collaborated with various indigenous communities in Mexico to create the collection. The pieces are a tribute to Mexico’s artisanal history, recognizing both the talent and technique of the women and men involved.
The Butterfly Effect
The roots of the collection are in nature, combining Dior’s rich history with vibrant depictions Mexican flora. Butterfly, which is said to represent metamorphosis, transcendence and transformation, has a prominent place on bags, and even beyond. The intricate depictions of butterflies appear in both embroidered and literal prints. We saw on the runway stunning versions of the Lady Dior and Saddle Bag, both of which were fitted with laser-cut renditions of the winged insect. The Dior Book Tote was also shown with stunning floral embroidery featuring the butterfly. Find out more by clicking below.
